Miresball
Our class trip to Miresball was my first time ever going to an agency, and physically looking at that type of work environment, which was pretty exciting as a student since we can potentially end up actually working in a place like Miresball. The building itself was really cool, and the floor layout was pretty interesting, a cool side note was how the building dates back to the 30's or 40's and was originally occupied by a casket manufacturer. The atmosphere overall was pretty pretty artsy and refreshing to look at as a work environment, art/graphic design pieces pinned everywhere and a long bookshelf of graphic design books I could'nt keep my eyes off of.
It was cool to learn about their past project, Lux Art Institute: a unique art facility for a changing world." How they were able to get that off the ground with what started with lots of pro-bono work, fundraising and grants, and how they built simple and effective branding of of a simple square shape. Other cool thing was learning about some facts about a couple of their big clients such as INTEL (computer chips manufacturer) and SHURE (microphone manufacturer).
Some notable takeaways for dealing with "decision makers" were: Be humble and open, don't get to attatched to an idea/design because: "your baby may be tossed out".
Another important if not the most important take-away I got was a list
of things M.B. look for when handpicking employees:
- Personality over talent
- Teamwork ability
- It's our "baby" (collaboration)
- Lots of fingerprints on a project makes it better.
