Clove Street Press w/Daniel Heffernan
Clove Street Press was quite an impressive experience. Before going I honestly didn't really know what letterpress printing was, so I did a little research and saw some photos of work from this method of printing, but those photos didn't do this art-form justice. The aesthetic look and feel is pretty remarkable. The vintage machinery and printing technique is really intriguing and a true craft.
It was also great hearing some of the inside info on how Daniel got started, things like how he got his first press, how old his presses are, and their origins. Even how/why he came up with the name for his shop. It was also cool learning the process of how he sets up artwork, and necessary plates to make the impressions. He was even pretty open about how he how he deals with the business side of things. Things like: low-balling customers, to what type of business he files as for tax purposes, and even some of his product pricing.
